Call Center Mortgage Banker will receive inbound phone calls from consumers that have a Veteran Affairs (VA) or a Federal Housing Administration (FHA) home loan requesting to take cash out of their existing home.

Underwriter - On site position only – Lake Forest, CA

The Underwriter underwrites mortgage loans ensuring compliance with appropriate company and secondary market investor standards. This position is responsible for evaluating loans in order to maximize organizational profit and minimize risk or loss, and examines loan documentation for accuracy and completeness.

This position requires the employee to collaborate with loan originator or production staff to secure all required documents. The Underwriter has authority to withdraw and decline loans and the ability to validate income, asset and collateral documents including self-employed tax returns. The Underwriter may be involved in one or several types of mortgage lending (conventional, government-backed, etc.). Lending authority to include Conventional and government loan programs.

Excellent phone and communication skills and a value of providing superior customer service experiences to internal and external customers is required.

Position-Specific Responsiblities 

  • Review new loan files to ensure loan meets investor and program criteria.
  • Review transmittal & 1003 to make sure it is accurate and complete, compare to findings to verify that all information matches.
  • Review credit report and compare to liabilities on 1003. Verify the investor guidelines for outstanding derogatory items and requirement payment or satisfaction if needed. Request updated mortgage history if needed.
  • Calculate income using documentation required per investor, questioning any large changes in income.
  • Review assets statements to compare to required assets. Require documentation and source for any recent large deposits.
  • Review title to verify our borrower has ownership on a refinance transaction and that the seller has ownership for purchase transaction. Check that chain of title meets investor requirements. Verify there are no unpaid liens or judgments and that all mortgage liens are being paid off through the transaction. Compare tax figures to 1003.
  • Review appraisal to ensure the value is supported and that the appraiser has provided complete accurate appraisal. Order value review on loans considered high risk.
  • Review file to make sure compliance has been met; regulatory, state compliance and federal (patriot act).
  • Calculate net tangible benefit for those states/programs that require this test
  • Verify that the rate lock matches the underwriting file with the correct program, LTV, credit score and pre-payment penalty.
  • Review final conditions turned in for Underwriting Final Approval within 24 hours.
  • Maintain current and fluid knowledge of investor and agency guidelines.
  • Must have experience working with multiple investors
  • Conventional and FHA experience required (applicant must have a CHUMS)
  • VA and USDA experience a plus

Loan Processor - On site position only – Lake Forest, CA

The essential function of the Loan Processor is to review all loan files within 24hrs upon receipt from the Loan Officer. Loan Processors ensures that assigned loan applications are processed and prepared for funding in a timely manner, meeting all AFN/Investor regulatory requirements. He/she accurately and completely documents each file for completeness and accuracy. Continually demonstrates good partnership and excellent customer service.

This position will report to the Processing manager and will work closely with the Loan Originators to gather all of the necessary documentation & information needed to process the loan application from inception through funding.

Job Purpose

  • Solid proficiency in processing purchase and refinance transactions of Conv, FHA, VA, USDA & CHDAP, DU Refi, Open Access, FHA Streamline & IRRRL
  • Ability to analyze loan transactions to confirm they are within AFN/Investor guidelines
  • Provide Loan Officers with a list of items needed from the customer to process the loan application completely
  • Strong PC skills, including Word, Excel & Encompass Loan Origination System a plus, etc
  • Upload all initial signed disclosures to AFN’s paperless system within 24 hours of receiving them from the Loan Officer, verify all disclosures are dated within compliance and meet all AFN guidelines and also contain all state specific required disclosures.
  • Review all income documentation for accuracy, completeness and confirm the borrower’s income is sufficient to qualify for the mortgage for which they are applying.
  • Must be proficient in calculating income both for employed and self employed & corporate income types
  • Run credit if not already done by the Loan Officer
  • Proficient in reviewing credit to verify the borrower’s credit history meets AFN/Investor credit guidelines Run AUS - DU/LP
  • Order FHA/VA Case numbers (ONLY when initial signed & dated disclosures are in hand)
  • Open Escrow & Title
  • Review preliminary title reports for potential property/borrower issues
  • Order all necessary Escrow & Title info from Escrow on purchases
  • Order Appraisals and/or AVM through AFN’s approved AMC’s once signed disclosures are received and are complete
  • Run LDP/GSA’s for all parties that are involved in the transaction
  • Order VOE’s, Flood Certs, TRV’s, social Security cert (if applicable)
  • Uploads all supporting documentation to AFN’s paperless system in preparation for underwriting complete underwriting packages are a must. (refer to AFN’s complete loan submission checklist for accuracy)
  • Excellent organizational skills, strong interpersonal skills; the ability to effectively interact with various styles and levels of management and be able to adjust own communication style based on the audience.
  • Excellent communications skills - phone, personal contact and written, must exercise judgment, accept responsibility and handle confidential information.
